Ignacio Villaverde, Provost of the University of Oviedo, is Professor of Constitutional Law at the Asturian Academic Institution. His professional career is closely related to the University of Oviedo, where he has held various positions. Villaverde has been secretary of the Department of Public Law, Secretary General, Vice Provost of Coordination, Communication and Institutional Relations and Secretary of its Social Council. The current Provost is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Constitutionalists of Spain and the coordinator of the series of conferences and seminars sponsored by the General Council of the Principality and the University of Oviedo: Espacio Fundamentos. He’s a founding member of the Group of Excellence “DERECONS” and a constituent member of the Association of Constitutionalists of Spain, to whose board of directors he has belonged since 2013, Villaverde also has a long career as a researcher. He has participated in eight national projects and one European project. He is also the author of several books and numerous scientific articles in national and foreign journals on fundamental rights, freedom of speech and information and the right to be informed, the right to privacy, honor, data protection, transparency, constitutional justice and territorial organization of the State. In recent times, he has initiated a line of research on Constitutional Theory and Liquid Constitutionalism. He has taught numerous courses, seminars and conferences in Spain and abroad on these subjects. He’s been editor and reviewer of several scientific journals, evaluator of state research projects, visiting professor at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg, the London School of Economics and Politics, La Sapienza in Rome, the Department of Constitutional Law at the University of Florence and, more recently, at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Public Law in Heidelberg. He has also developed an extensive professional career. He has been Counsel of the Constitutional Court, Director of the Legal Department of the City Council of Gijón, Advisor of the Communication Council of the Principality of Asturias and has advised several private and public companies on data protection, publicity and transparency and constitutional justice.
